However, not all DVD players give you the best of the picture and sound quality but only selected models offers satisfactory results. DVD players have combined many functions making them perform beyond the basic digital audio video playback. If you need to get more from your DVD player select a device which supports more features.

HDTV uses HD DVD Players
If you own a High definition TV then a HD DVD player will be an ideal choice. This is merely because that a HD DVD player will only be able to fully utilise your high definition TV’s functions. With the capability to display movies up to 1080px resolutions, the HD DVD players become superior to the standard DVD players. With the “Video-up-conversion” feature in the ordinary DVD players can convert the resolution of the standard DVDs to a higher resolution almost closer to your HDTV’s potentials.

VHS/DVD players
VHS/DVD players are an ideal choice for users who prefer to keep their old VHS tapes with them. The combination of VHS and DVD player in one device makes it very useful and efficient. You can play both VHS tapes and the DVDs. With the unavailability of these VHS/DVD players in most of retailer stores, you can shift your search to a reputable online electronic goods store and if you are lucky enough you will get a perfect player.

DVD Players with disc changers
For users with difficulty in storing their large collection of DVDs, a DVD player with mega-changers will be the best choice. With the capability to hold up to 400 DVDs, these DVD players with mega-changers have become a huge click. As a result you will not have to change the discs all the time but all you have to do is choose the DVD of your choice and the disc changer exchanges the disc automatically.

Portable DVD players
For users who are constantly on the move, a portable DVD player will come in handy. These portable digital players are integrated with a screen which allows you to watch movies and videos. The display resolution, battery life and type of the batteries are certain factors you need to consider when selecting a portable DVD player.

Region free DVD players
DVD players are usually designed in such a manner that it can play DVDs from selected regions alone. For instance a Hollywood movie may not reach the big screen of India. In this case that DVD will not play in the DVD Player in India. Region-free DVD players are an exception as they operate from any region.

These features mentioned are just the basic and there are plenty others yet to discuss. Considering your needs at home you can choose an ideal DVD player. Choose a DVD player with sufficient features to satisfy your needs of you and your family.

Due to the enhancement of technology, VCRs have been outdated and DVD players are now popular. It offers high clarity pictures at affordable prices and nowadays DVD players are sold with memory slots. Thus it has got a great response in public.

In case of buying a DVD player, size is the main feature that has to be noted. The player must suit the space allotted and your requirements as well. Now there are portable DVD players. They are of different shapes:

Clamshells (opens like a laptop)

Tablets (screen will be revealed out)

There may be shapes to select, but the resolutions differ. For car use, the first thing to be considered is how the screen is to be mounted. In portable DVD players, the battery power has to be taken into account, when mounted in car, the battery power consumption will be more according to the number of screens, the brightness, usage of speakers, age of battery and the method of recharging the battery.

If the battery drains while watching movies, there are alternatives to see the movie. There are sockets and some USB ports that help you to plug the DVD player in the cigarette lighter socket or to be connected to the battery of the car. This needs no software to load on.

Normal DVD have 720 x 480 pixel resolutions, HDTV gives images into 720 or may be 1080. This 720 line format uses progressive scanning technology (720p) and 1080 format uses interlaced scanning technology (1080i). 1080 progressive scanning is a rare type. Without a television capable for high definition range then it is of no use getting an HD-DVD. If you have HDTV then there are Blu-Ray discs, which have a large capacity to store, and will give HD clarity.

Ordinary CRT TVs can be used to view a clear HD picture when it is upgraded, but the clarity will not be the same as that of HDTV. Aspect ratio in the DVD player will let you see the movie even better.

Basically the audio in DVD will be in Dolby digital technology, this can transmit up to 5.1 channel surround soundtracks. It is better to check whether the player supports audio and MP3 files. DVD+R/-R will let you record only one time. DVD+RW/-RW will let you record a lot of times.
