Harman Kardon is a multinational company of repute. They specialises in audio and video products. Their latest offering is the Harman Kardon DVD 47 DVD Player. It has a small table form factor with dimensions of 50 x 440 x 285mms and a weight of 2.7 kg. It can play both ordinary 5 inches discs and the rare 3-inches discs. It plays DVDs restricted to region code 2 or 0.
It can play DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD-RW, DVD+RW, SACD, VCD, CD, CD-R, CD-RW or MP3 discs. It can also play DVDs with Single side/single layer, single side/dual layer, dual side/dual layer. The audio formats supported are DVD-Audio MLP lossless, SACD 2-channel or multichannel, Linear PCM, MPEG, Windows Media 9, Dolby Digital or DTS for pure sound experience. It also has the ability to view still pictures in JPEG format and further supports the DivX format.
Video output is crisp with PAL/NTSC systems for display using progressive scan method. This DVD player supports HDMI up-scaling resolutions of 480p, 576p, 720p and 1080i, giving high definition content. The user is given control over the picture by various picture control options like contrast, brightness, saturation, sharpness and zoom; all this done easily using the infra red remote control provided. It even comes with an innovative dialog enhancer. A nifty feature, parental control, is provided to restrict access to content.
The Harman Kardon DVD 47 Progressive Scan DVD Player requires a maximum of only 11 watts at maximum operation and 1 watt on standby with an ordinary 110 – 240VAC/50 – 60Hz supply. Connectivity options include HDMI output ( 19 pin HDMI Type A ), composite video output ( RCA phono ), S-Video output ( 4 PIN mini-DIN ), component video output ( RCA phono x 3 ), digital audio output (optical) ( TOS Link ), digital audio output (coaxial) ( RCA phono ), remote control and digital 5.1 channel audio line-out ( RCA phono x 6 ). Also included in the packaging are 1 x HDMI cable, 1 x A/V cable and 1 x S-Video cable.
